Hello,
I'm looking for solution to the following problem and I hope you can help me: I have a file extension of SketchUp (.skp) and I want to take the dimensions of the model in SolidWorks. Can I convert the file into an appropriate format? And what are the steps?

Thanks in advance!

You can. Do theese steps:

- export to OBJ file from SketcUp

- open SW and check in add-ins menu "ScanTo3D"

- open OBJ file from SW menu (in combobox select type which end to Mesh Files)

- follow the wizard

Hi Tsvetomir,

You can also use STL or OBJ files from SketchUp in Geomagic Design X for measurement and building of surfaces/solids
and then export results (LiveTransfer(TM) with feature tree) in Solidworks...

PS

I almost forgot about the plugin Geomagic for Solidworks ))

You can do this in two ways (listed above),

but using the method with geomagiс you can use cross-sections, as simple 2D sketches, plus (if you use geomagic not separately as a plugin) you have wizards for automating builds (sweeping, pipes, etc.) Geomagic (former Rapidform) has a separate topic, but here it is offtopic.

Solidworks with the plugin can also build a sketch by section but less quality   and very slows down the work and sometimes crashes :wallbash: ((

You can also use the Materialise Magic for measuring coordinates of points and the assembly / disassembly of large stl files.

Yes, I will keep my files in 2D graphics Sketchup, but the image at an angle and then I will not be sure of the dimensions of the model. I have several restraining image SolidWorks.

I'm looking for this solution because of the attachment size is not correct.

The same result would be if transferred model in dwg format.
